Kostbare Zeit
I wrote Kostbare Zeit during the Playground Residency in Berlin – maybe the first and only residency for pop musicians – ten summer days filled with kind, like-minded people, long conversations, and the easy rhythm of the city. I arrived knowing it was time to start thinking about a new album. I had big ideas in my head: writing about humankind, the environment, something grand. But nothing seemed to stick. Every idea felt too heavy, too forced.
One evening, after dinner with the whole group, I walked back to our hostel with a small urge to write something before everyone returned. No plan, no pressure – just a quiet moment for myself. I picked up my viola, and Kostbare Zeit came almost immediately. The song unfolded so naturally that I barely noticed people slowly coming back, walking in and out of the room. Normally I get distracted easily when I’m writing new music, but that night nothing could pull me out of the flow. It felt as if the song was writing itself.
There was something incredibly beautiful about that moment – as if the muse had waited for a moment where I would feel creatively understood and safe. Kostbare Zeit became the starting point of the Frida album, the first gentle nudge towards the songs that wanted to be written.
